Relieve Nausea and Vomiting During Pregnancy with Ginger

Sometimes nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, commonly called morning sickness, a pregnant woman activities can be disrupted. There are many ways done to alleviate, at least minimize these problems, one with ginger.

According to a review published by the Journal of Obstetrics and Gynecology, ginger may help pregnant women deal with morning sickness pain without causing side effects that harm a fetus in the womb.

From the six studies that tested the effects of ginger in reducing nausea and vomiting in pregnant women, found that ginger works better than an placebo or a inactive drug such as vitamin B6, which so far has shown its function in reducing nausea and vomiting in some pregnant women.

Pregnant women who consume the ginger is not impaired in pregnancy, as reported by researchers in the journal. Ginger can be an effective therapy to overcome the nausea and vomiting in pregnancy.

However, they cautioned that these data are still preliminary and still needs further research to confirm that ginger is perfectly safe for pregnant women.
In a another study involving 246 women, ginger always outperformed placebo in dealing with nausea and vomiting. Even in women who experience severe morning sickness called hyperemesis gravidarum.

In a recent study, participants were randomly assigned to a capsule containing 350 mg of ginger or 25 mg of vitamin B6 three times a day for three weeks. In the study found that ginger was as effective as vitamin B6 in overcoming nausea and vomiting. Symptoms of morning sickness can be overcome in more than half the number of women in each group.

Some studies reported side effects such as headache, diarrhea, and drowsiness. However, there is no difference regarding pregnancy outcomes between women who consumed a placebo, vitamin B6 or ginger.
